Is there good demand for people learning Kubernetes?
Hard skills are the currency of the future.
Everyone thinks Kubernetes is a high demand skill.
But is there good demand for people learning it?
Kubernetes is a core technology for many roles.
DevOps Engineers
Platform Engineers
Software Engineers
Site Reliability Engineers
And the opportunities are split among them.
It's not just a DevOps related skill.
So YES.
Opportunities exist for all of us. It is, indeed a high demand skill.
But there's a problem. A big one.
The Skill gap.
Companies are struggling to find skilled engineers.
This is based on inputs from industry experts I talked to.
Believe me, this is the reality.
Companies want people with not just basic Kubernetes knowledge, but with the ability to handle complex problems. And to be honest, there are not many who can fit.
The solution? Focus on depth of knowledge.
It is a minimum requirement.
Is knowing just Kubernetes enough?
No. Knowing just Kubernetes isn't just enough.
Get familiar with related tools.
Helm, Terraform, ArgoCD, etc. Just to name some.
These skills give you a massive advantage. The EDGE!
Are Kubernetes certifications absolutely necessary?
I don’t think certifications add much value if you can manage to get into
your 1st round of interview.
If you are a skilled engineer, with hands on experience, then dude, you don’t need certifications.
Just do the things and talk about it on your socials.
Your presence there sets up your authority and can land you opportunities.
As of this writing, I have 49400+ friends on linkedin.
And over 20400+ li newsletter subs. And more in other social media.
So I can confidently say, it works.
Because I have experienced it myself.
And just incase, if you need help with how you can improve your online presence, I can help. More details here.
I don’t do this often.
So take it while it exists.
And coming back, if you are not getting your 1st round of interview calls.
Then maybe that small blue badge, in your resume can attract some eyes. Consider doing the K8s certifications.
To summarize:
For people who learn Kubernetes (K8s), there are opportunities, but make sure to focus on learning and building things deep. And be freaking curious.
The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence. – Albert Einstein
